By culture with a capital C I am referring to the literature of a society (Caon, 2020). There are three literary classics that I would like to share.

Cuore by Edmondo di Amicis (high-beginner/low-intermediate level)
This is a very warm book that is widely read in Italy. It is warm since it presents the father giving his son life lessons. The lessons are quite wholesome like patriotism, loyalty, goodness. However, this book was also used to promote fascism. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_(novel)
There is a television series adaptation of the book. I found it focused too much on the couple and the teacher rather than the lessons that the father hoped to transmit to his son.
In general, reading this traditional text is refreshing since it offers themes that are not common in 2020. The book is available on www.liberliber.it

I Promessi Sposi di Manzoni (Italian high school students literacy level)
This novel by Manzoni is compulsory reading for Italian high school students. I did not like the novel that much. Perhaps I read it at the wrong time in my life. I recall reading it during a brutal wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. In the novel, there is the great plague of 1630. I felt as if life and art were imitating each other too much.
